Keeping fit as I grow older

As I grow older, my goal is to remain in the best shape possible.

I have noticed a slight decrease in my strength, stamina and speed. I can’t run as fast as I used to or do as many pushups. However, I’m still in better shape than the majority of my peers. I still have a great deal of energy and maintain a healthy weight. It takes quite a bit of time and effort to keep physically fit. I spend a minimum of 60 minutes every morning working out. After a dedicated warm up, I either run, jump rope or cycle to get my heart rate elevated for around twenty minutes or so. I then complete a series of lunges, squats, mountain climbers and push ups. I do different styles of holds using my own body weight, sometimes holding a leg parallel to the floor for at least a minute and also maintaining the plank position. I like to spend at least fifteen minutes incorporating various styles of abdominal crunches and around ten minutes on flexibility and balance. I also lift weights of different sizes, from eight down to two pounds. I think it’s important to target all different muscles in changing ways. Along with physical fitness, I am careful about what I eat and drink. I make sure to drink a lot of water and avoid coffee and sugary drinks. I don’t eat meat and build my diet around fruits, vegetables and nuts. I make a lot of meals that include tofu and superfoods such as kale, spinach, blueberries and asparagus.
