I have a friend who happens to be a lighthouse keeper. He was pretty smart about the set up of his home and taking care of the lighthouse. He has generators on hand in case his electricity fails to keep the lighthouse working. He also has numerous solar panels for electricity and a good battery bank for his power supply. He also has satellite service for his TV and internet, and he is pretty good about keeping on top of things. He inspects everything around the lighthouse each and every day. The cool thing that I like about his little home is the fact that he has a ductless mini split HVAC. He also has a smart thermostat that allows him to adjust the temperature control settings of each of the indoor units inside of his home. He has to be careful about his energy use, that’s why it’s so important to have such an energy efficient heating and cooling system. He also has a fireplace in case he is unable to power the HVAC system. He goes fishing for food a lot of the time and he collects rainwater that he filters. I do have a great deal of respect for my friend because it’s a very important job. He is literally saving the lives of those people who are out on boats and ships. If they are not able to see the light, they could crash into the shores and die. Also, he is always watching the water to make sure there is nobody in need of rescue. If so, he will go out there on his little boat to try to attempt a rescue, with first aid supplies and everything.
