We never plan for outdoor activities.

If I have learned nothing while living in the midwest, I have learned that having outdoor parties is never in the plans.

The weather in the Midwest is quite harsh, whether it is winter or summer.

We get desert-like conditions sometimes. The wind will begin to blow and after having a hot dry couple of weeks, we end up with crazy windstorms. We can have tornadoes at any time because of it being so flat. A nice summer morning can end up being a scorching afternoon that has you scrambling inside so you don’t suffocate. Then when fall comes around, it can be war, and then you have snow at night. The winters are just as crazy, so we never plan any outdoors events. Even when I had my wedding, as much as I wanted to get married outside in the gazebo, I knew I couldn’t risk it. We worried about tornadoes all the time, when the wind was blowing and storms were being predicted. My husband and I decided to rent a place that had good air conditioning and an available storm cellar. The morning of our wedding started out cool and comfortable. We got married in September, hoping to be able to have an arch outside, but we didn’t plan on it. By the time our wedding was to begin, the temperatures were over one hundred and the sun was blistering. We were glad to have a venue with air conditioning. Every house has air conditioning, if they want to stay safe and comfortable. Why would we drag people out of their air conditioned homes, to stand out in the heat for a wedding. We had an arch in the venue and air conditioning to keep everyone comfortable. We had a lovely wedding even if it wasn’t what I had dreamed about. I was a dreamer, but a practical one who liked their AC.
