Don’t service HVAC drunk

Sometimes I feel like my hubris gets the best of me.

Isn’t that to the bane of all human existence? Personally, I struggle with getting overly confident when it comes to my professional trade and related expertise.

It’s hard not to get a big head when you have been working in the same industry for over 20 years. In fact, I joined the heating, cooling, and air quality control profession when I was still in high school. Back then, I answered phones at the local heating and cooling dealership and I shadowed the heating and cooling technicians when they went on basic repair jobs. Immediately after graduating from high school I went to the local trade school for the heating, cooling, and ventilation control program. I learned how to service and repair air conditioners, forced air furnaces, and air purification devices. I graduated with highest honors from the heating and cooling repair program and immediately started working as a professional HVAC technician at the best indoor air quality control repair shop in town. All of my credentials aside… Drinking really will degrade your ability to complete familiar tasks. I found this out the hard way last week after I drank a few too many beers and decided my air conditioning unit needed a quick inspection. I’m not sure exactly what I did to the cooling system, because I was not in the right mind. What I can tell you is, my central heating and cooling units have not been working the same ever since. I might actually have to call a heating, cooling, and air quality control dealership to help me with my own HVAC devices. Talk about eating a slice of humble pie.
