Too many choices isn’t a good thing

Have you ever read those studies where they examine how difficult it is for people to make decisions? It turns out that making a choice is one of the most exhausting things you can do for your brain.

You rapidly degrade all of your executive functioning when you are trying to weigh the pros and cons of every selection.

When people are presented with too many options, they get even more stalled out. This is what I was trying to keep in mind when my wife started looking into indoor air handling devices recently. We both agreed that we needed to upgrade our central heating, cooling, and air quality control systems sooner rather than later. I told her to start looking into modern air conditioning units and forced air furnaces before we made any selection with the professional heating, cooling, and ventilation company around the corner. I have decided that it was a bad idea to leave the indoor air handling device choice up to my wife. Mostly, because she has been researching all indoor air temperature control units to such an extent that our heads are both spinning. We now have 20 different options for air conditioning units and 15 potential choices for forced air furnaces. The brochures for every single indoor air temperature control device are spread across our kitchen table so we can’t even eat there. Neither one of us can make up our minds about the optimal indoor air temperature control system. Now, we’re thinking that we probably should call the professional heating and cooling dealership around the corner for help before we go completely insane.
