Without having a high quality central air conditioning system, I would never even consider living down in the southern part of the country.
I have lived without central air conditioning in the past, and it’s not fun.
Even when you aren’t living in a really warm climate, it’s still not ideal for someone like me who really enjoys feeling nice and cool in the summer when the temperatures outside are hot. I don’t really do all that well in the heat and I’m not exactly what you would call an outdoorsy type of person, either. During the summer when the temperature outside is hot, I prefer to turn the thermostat down and sit on my couch with a book or in front of the TV. That’s just how I am. Last year, I had to move further south because of my job and they tried to set me up in an apartment without central air conditioning. It was a little apartment with a couple of window unit air conditioners in it, and as soon as I saw it, I knew that it was not going to work for me at all. I explained to the woman from my job who was setting it up for me that I could not possibly live somewhere without a central air conditioning system. Not only is it uncomfortable for me to be without real A/C, but it’s also the issue of humidity down in the south. Without air conditioning, you end up with mold way faster than you might think. Humidity can be a real problem down here.
