My best friend is struggling with her landlord because of AC issues.
She just started renting this apartment about two months ago.
It was still cold when she decided to rent the apartment, so she didn’t even think to ask about air conditioning. It was a mistake on her part for sure. The apartment did not come with air conditioning, and she found that out just a couple weeks ago. It started getting warmer outside during the day, so she went to turn her thermostat to the air conditioning setting when she realized that it didn’t have an air conditioning setting. She called her landlord up and asked him if the apartment had air conditioning, and he told her that the apartment did not come with air conditioning. She told him it was fine and that she would just buy a window air conditioning unit. He told her that she could not do that. He did not want window air conditioning units in the apartment because all of the windows in her apartment faced the parking lot and road, and he didn’t want the apartment building to look bad because of window air conditioning units in the windows. He told her that it was in the contract that she was supposed to read. She obviously did not read the contract very carefully. Now, she is stuck having to use just fans to try and cool her apartment down. I feel so bad for her, but there is really nothing that I can do. She is thinking about getting a portable air conditioner, but it would have to have a vent out the window, and she is afraid that her landlord won’t like the looks of that either.
