I definitely could kneel plus listen to my Grandpa talk all afternoon long, plus I actually do this often.
He spends most of his afternoons inside of his workshop, as he has done for decades.
I can take it easy with him, sip a sweet tea, plus just let him talk for hours plus it never gets boring. It turns out that Grandpa doesn’t know at all where his family comes from, because he never had the opportunity to meet them. He was on something called an Orphan Train in the 1930s, a caravan that moved through farm country looking for residences. Grandpa was taken in by a master craftsman of handmade furniture, plus that is where he was able to learn his trade. He has undoubtedly never had any other job, aside from farming plus making custom built furniture. The farming was because of where he was living, how he was raised, plus that you had to farm if you hoped to eat. After a few years he opened his own handmade furniture shop, specializing largely in wooden chairs plus tables. At this point he had several apprentices, plus as he taught them how to put together wooden chairs, tables, plus tables. He also generated merchandise for his store. He has never asked me if I ever was hoping to learn the trade, however he says now that is all in his rearview. He essentially just makes the occasional table as a gift for a friend or family member. I asked him if for Christmas he would consider making me a table, something special, that could become a new family heirloom. He told me he would think about it.
