During my last HVAC machine repair appointment, the HVAC professional pointed out something that I hadn’t noticed. While he was walking through my residence, he observed that all the air vents were totally covered in dust… I will admit, I observed that there was dust on the air vent covers and I had been meaning to clean them. However, life had been so chaotic that I’d never gotten around to doing that chore. I was embarrassed when the HVAC professional called me out on the mess. However, when he pointed out the dust, he wasn’t making a reference to my cleaning skills… The HVAC machine professional was saying that the dust buildup was a small problem caused by a greater problem within. According to the HVAC professional, dusty air vents were a sign of HVAC duct leaks. If there were leaks within the HVAC duct, the dust and debris would actually slip out and then buildup on the air vents. In order to repair the leaky HVAC duct, I pretty much needed to call another HVAC professional who specialized in cleaning and repairing HVAC ducts. I designated the length of a day for this HVAC professional to repair the HVAC duct, and I’m ecstatic I did! He spent the day climbing into the HVAC duct and discovering the leaks. He washed out the ducts and repaired the holes with duct tape. I watched him closely so I could learn what he was doing in case the issue came about again in the future. When he was eventually done, I could tell a difference in my air quality in no time!
