HVAC work pays for the lifestyle I want

Some people have ambition, and upward mobility, but not me. I’m a simple type of guy, my needs are few, and my free time and happiness outweigh the desire to have a large bank account. Several of the men and women I worked beside have moved up in the company, and I wish them well. They wanted more out of life, but not me. This job has great benefits, it pays well, gives a cost of living raise once a year, and never demands more than 40 hours a week. Why would I give up the life of an HVAC tech just for a little bit more money? My nights and weekends are always free, and since the HVAC company doesn’t drug test for pot, I can smoke and drink as much as I want during my free time. This place is really legit, and the supervisor is a sweetheart but has strict rules about the behavior of their HVAC techs. Since we interact with the public, we serve as representatives for the HVAC company owners, and thus always need to be neat, clean, polite, and on time. Showing up smelling of booze or reefer even one time will result in termination, and I love my job as an HVAC tech too much to jeopardize it! It isn’t a big company, so if I got serious about climbing the ladder of the HVAC industry I would need to move to a bigger employer. But I am happy right where I am, and as long as nothing changes I could see being an HVAC tech for the rest of my life.
