Running a BnB had to be the most fascinating thing that I have ever done.
But, before the pandemic, it all seemed like a dream that would never come true.
Life was different before 2020 because there wasn’t much possibility of working remotely at my company. Every day we had to go into the office and at times carry work home. But, when the pandemic hit, we found ourselves working from home more. Our boss saw that people were more motivated that he said we were free to work remotely even when it was safe to go back to work. My partner chose to quit his position and we bought an old colonial home in the country. Given his contractor skills, he began renovating the place and we also had to figure out the heating and cooling. The house was old so there wasn’t any sign of ductwork. After doing some inquiries we realized installing new ductwork in the house would cost a fortune. The goal was to turn it into a BnB and residence so we had to find a solution for heating and air conditioning. The HVAC business we consulted suggested we get mini split AC systems that were much more affordable and energy efficient. An HVAC professional came by the renovation site and we spoke in length about zoning as well. Installing the energy efficient mini-split AC systems was the best thing to do since it allowed zoning and also lowered the costs. There was no need to install ductwork in the house once these were in place. The only other matter we had to handle was figuring out additional heating for those freezing long winter days.
