I was one of those folks that ended up losing their job due to the pandemic. But I did it in almost reverse fashion. When the pandemic first hit, the company closed our offices with the zone controlled HVAC. We all had to figure out just how to work from home inside our own air conditioning. That part was surprisingly pretty simple for me. Once I got the hang of the zoom meetings, I was pretty much all set. Then again, it was just me and my wife at home in the air conditioning. It wasn’t like I had a bunch of kids running around like many of my colleagues. While I was getting accustomed to working from home in my own air conditioning, some of my colleagues were getting laid off. The company was down sizing in order to try and make it through the pandemic. I made the cut so I was able to keep doing my work from the air conditioning of my home. And that’s the way it went until that zone controlled HVAC of the office was once again open to work in. I’d been triple vaccinated by that point and felt like I was good to go back. The very first day back, I got called in to the boss’s office and was given a severance package and a hardy handshake. Further cuts were necessary and it cost me my place inside the zone controlled HVAC of that office. But I am now doing my own thing from the home office I put together during the pandemic. And I even added a ductless heat pump to have the sort of quality heating and air I want in an office setting.
