There was a weird grinding noise coming from the furnace.
I didn’t want to call the HVAC company because it was so expensive, so I tried to ignore the noise.
It wasn’t easy to ignore the noise in the furnace. It was like the Telltale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe. the more you tried to ignore the sound, the louder it got. It was the man’s guilt that had him trying to forget the sound of a beating heart. I was feeling guilty for not calling the HVAC company and having the furnace checked. I knew that if it quit running; it was going to be my fault, but I didn’t want to spend the money. After three days, I called the HVAC company and told them about the grinding noise. The HVAC technician arrived a couple of hours later, and he went over the furnace. He found some dirt that was grinding against the metal in the component and he had to clean the furnace again. He also told me I needed to have the ductwork cleaned. There were parts of the ductwork that were so dirty that it was impeding the airflow. He called the ductwork cleaning crew and told them he needed them as soon as possible. I couldn’t believe dirty ductwork could cause damage to my HVAC system. He said I was lucky, because that kind of noise usually happened when it was too late to save the HVAC system. I thanked him for his help and asked when the ductwork cleaners would be there. He gave me a time for the following day, but now I was concerned whether my furnace would last that long.
