Husband won’t workout

Throughout my life, physical fitness has been a top priority.

  • I workout six days per week, usually first thing in the morning, and for at least an hour.

I work high impact aerobics, strength training, balance and flexibility. To get maximum benefit from my exertion, I mix up the types of workouts I do, continually concentrating on different muscle groups. I make sure that by the end of the training session I’m sweaty, exhausted and out of breath. I push myself to be faster, be stronger and to go further at every opportunity. Because of this dedication, I keep myself in very good shape. I’ve had no major injuries, suffered no debilitating illnesses and I have tons of energy. I often go for long bike rides, kayak on the lake and tackle home improvement projects. My husband and I are nearly exactly the same age, and he’s slowed down considerably. He frequently complains about sore muscles and joints. He often needs to see the chiropractor or the doctor. He’s gained quite a bit of weight in the last couple of years. He refuses to workout at all. I can’t even get him to go for a walk or a short bike ride with me. He won’t even take a few minutes to stretch his muscles. Plus, he drinks a ton of coffee, smokes cigarettes, eats a lot of red meat and likes sugary snacks. I am a vegetarian and avoid coffee, fast food and sugar. I keep warning him that he’s going to face severe health problems if he doesn’t take better care of himself, but he won’t listen.
