Not sure if running app is a good thing

I downloaded an app to track my runs on my phone this morning.

I was really excited to check it out. I planned out a three mile run and hoped to keep a good pace. About thirty seconds after I took off, the app cut into my music and a voice provided my stats. I was told how long I’d been running, my average pace per mile and calories burned. Since I was just getting warmed up, I wasn’t at a very good pace. I made sure to lengthen my strides and speed up as I continued. The app continually interrupted with information, and it was a bit discouraging. I’m not nearly as fast of a runner as I thought. However, having this app did motivate me to increase my pace and keep pushing. Every time I had the urge to slow down, I thought of that voice and I kept trying to improve. By the midway point of the run, I was sweating profusely, exhausted and my left ankle had started throbbing. I was anxious to get home. Then I came across a road closing that left me no way of crossing the bridge. I needed to double back and ended up running across a field of grass as a shortcut. This detour added an extra mile and a half to the run. By the final stretch, I was dying. I half killed myself on this run. The first thing I did when I got home was drink a whole bunch of water. I then made sure to take the time to thoroughly stretch my muscles. I was worried about being too sore to workout the next day.
