I like to have enough extra money in the bank to last me a year if I wasn’t able to work for some reason.
That means that I need about $12K in the bank as my monthly bills are about $1K a month.
I have a flatmate to help absorb some of the costs of living in a nice flat by the beach and we get along great. She works all day at a local business so I usually don’t even see her except on weekends sometimes as I am at the beach till later in the evening each weekday. She is an HVAC rep and usually is gone by 8am, long before I even get out of bed, and by the time I get home from the beach each evening she is fast asleep. It’s almost like I don’t even have a roommate but have half the bills I used to have when I was living alone. She told me that she could probably get me a job at the HVAC company where she works doing inventory and helping answer the phones. I used to work in the industry a long time ago and have some knowledge about it so working there would be an easy transition for me. I just need to decide if I want to do that or if I want to play more music in the streets with my friend as we earn a good amount of money doing that. The only drawback with playing on the streets is we have no heating or cooling during the extreme weather.
