I was thinking the other day about how air conditioning and heating has come a long way technology wise, however back when I was growing up we did not have central heating and A/C! Our heating was provided by heating systems and our air conditioning was either non-existent or was provided by window air conditioners.
In my house growing up we had window air conditioning units all over the house.
When I think back to those days I have to say that I miss it a lot. I suppose that may sound crazy but it is true. The reason I miss it is because window air conditioners had so little maintenance to perform on them unlike central heating and air conditioners, you did not have to even think about heat and a/c tune up and check ups. It was all cut and dry. You just kept the air filter clean and changed the window air conditioner and that was it! It would rarely ever break down, then and if it did, you would just take it to an electric service shop (remember those?). It cost under a one hundred dollars to service a window air conditioning unit if needed. Today with central heating and air conditioners you can end up spending thousands in the course of a few years on just HVAC service and also heating and A/C service house services! Back then, you did not even have to worry or think about that. With the furnace if something went wrong most of the time you were able to service it yourself. I really miss the old days.
