My mom refuses to say a word about the HVAC system malfunctioning in front of my dad.
It’s not because she’s afraid that he will get mad about it or anything like that though.
It’s simply the fact that she just does not want him to try to work on it himself. My dad tears up everything that he touches, and even though he knows this about himself, he continues to try and do repairs. I think that most of it is because he is a man and he feels like he should be able to do home repairs himself. I don’t know what the deal is with him, but he just does not want to call to have repairs done by a professional when it comes to anything around the house. I remember last summer when the air conditioning system tore up in their house. My dad refused to call to get it fixed, and he and my mom were miserable for weeks because he could not figure out how to fix it himself. Finally, one day my mom called the air conditioning repairman when my dad was out of town and she had him come and fix it. She did not tell him that she did that and she let him think that he fixed himself! She told him that it just magically started working when he left! Now they are having another malfunction, but it’s with the furnace. Luckily for my mom, it’s almost spring so maybe it won’t be that big of a deal this time.
