The work conditions were awful, but the boss wouldn't send anyone home

The air conditioner has been broken at work all week. The indoor air conditions have been positively awful. It’s hot and humid outside and it’s also hot and humid indoors as well. A couple of people called in sick, but I didn’t have enough vacation time to risk. When I came to work on Monday morning, the temperature inside of the building was 72°. By 9 am, it was 80 degrees inside of the building. The boss expected us to complete regular production schedules, even though it was extremely hot and uncomfortable inside of the building. A couple of people started to complain when the indoor temperatures reached 85 degrees. Some people wanted to go home, but the boss threatened to dock their pay if anyone left early. It was so hard to focus on work and probably a little bit dangerous as well. The heat was making me flushed and I didn’t have access to water. A couple of times I started to feel faint. About an hour before the end of the day, the boss finally agreed to let us go home. I think it was only so he could finally fix the AC problem. I don’t think he could fix the AC problem until the building was empty. That made me even more aggravated and annoyed that he didn’t let us go at lunch time. I spent most of the afternoon at my apartment laying in front of the AC unit. I was so overheated that I felt sick and tired under the weather. Unfortunately, the air conditioner hasn’t been fixed yet.
