I could relax plus listen to my Grandpa talk forever, plus so I often do.
He spends a majority of his afternoons out in his workshop, as he had for a number of decades! I can sit with him, sip a sweet tea, plus just let him speak about things for hours plus it never gets old. It turns out that Grandpa doesn’t even know where his family comes from, because he never met them. He was on something known as an Orphan Train in the 1930s, a caravan that moved through farm country looking for dwellings. Grandpa was taken in by a master craftsman of handmade furniture, plus that is where he was able to pick up on his trade. He has never had any other task, apart from farming plus making custom built furniture. The farming was because of where he was living, how he was raised, plus that you had to farm it if you didn’t want to starve. After some years he opened his own handmade furniture shop, specializing primarily in wooden chairs plus tables. At this point he had numerous apprentices, plus as he taught them how to build wooden chairs, tables, plus coffee tables, he also generated merchandise for his store. He has never asked me if I had the desire to learn the trade, but he says now that is all behind him, plus he just makes coffee tables from time to time as a gift for a neighbor or family member. I asked him if for Christmas he would mind making me a really nice coffee table. I wanted something special, that could become a new family heirloom. He said he would think about it for a time.
