It was sort of a bitter pill but at least the pandemic had already introduced me to working from home.
When the virus hit in 2020, the company I worked for closed our offices with the wonderful zone controlled HVAC.
It was up to all of us then to work from home in our own air conditioning to try and keep the company running. Our company is a small, family owned company. It’s been struggling to stay competitive in our market segment for more than a decade. And we’ve had to downsize the operation a couple of times. So when the word came in early 2021 that our offices with that great zone controlled HVAC would not be reopening, I wasn’t shocked. I was sad for sure. That was a company that meant a lot to me. Not just the paycheck or the zone controlled HVAC but the people and my colleagues. It was so tough to see that family owned company finally call it a day. However, I was able to rally a bit and get on with my own career. With the severance they gave me, I had the HVAC company install a ductless heat pump inside the guest room I was now making my home office. The fact is that I like to work much cooler than we keep the house. So the ductless heat pump was just the answer. It’s been a steady flow of work over the past year and I really do enjoy working from home in this wonderful air conditioning.
