I had not been to my uncle’s farmhouse for ages. This was one of my most favorite places to be in the world. And that had everything to do with my uncle. This guy was a free spirit and lived on his own terms. He bought twenty acres of wooded property that was barely on the grid eons ago. This is a guy who is not your regular worker in the commercial Heating, Ventilation & A/C of an office, and has a regular life. This guy was a writer and a thinker and an adventure seeker. My uncle was genuinely the most unique person I have ever met in my life. And when I was in university and a young adult, I would look forward to spending time with him inside his farmhouse. This house was rustic to be sure. There was no residential Heating, Ventilation & A/C nor were there multiple frills of any kind. But he had wonderful solid furniture and an amazing wood stove for heating. The guy also had this big garden that produced most of his food. I’d get away from university for a weekend to relax in this spot. For sure I was stunned my uncle left this property and this condo to me. And I’m thrilled I’ve managed to spruce it a bit so it’s comfortable for my family and I. I had the local Heating, Ventilation & A/C company come out and add a ductless heat pump so we have some air conditioning in the summer. I’ve also upgraded the furnishings and the dining room as well. It’s an elegant spot and I’m just so grateful to my uncle for passing it down to me.
