Don’t turn the air conditioning off during vacation

I guess I’ve come to terms with the fact that we are poised to get roasted during another Summer here where I live.

My home is in the south and that means there is plenty of heat and humidity to go around.

I would even say maybe too much. But that’s part of the deal if you want to live around here. Of course, those more fortunate than I take off for the northern climates and less air conditioning during the Summer. I’m just not quite in that tax bracket so I just deal with what the Summer has to deliver. Hey, it’s worth taking a heating beating for four months to enjoy perhaps the best weather in the country the rest of the year. And there are some other good things about Summer. I love going to watch my kids at swim meets and softball games. Plus, it’s only like four more months until we leave the central air conditioning of home for Summer vacation. That means two weeks without having to once step inside the zone controlled HVAC of the office. And that also means that I get to eat and drink and have a blast at the beach. But there’s one thing for sure that I won’t do again. I won’t be turning off the air conditioning while we’re gone. I did this once years ago in an effort to save some money. I figured since we weren’t home, why keep the cooling on? Well, I came home to a lot of mold and mildew. The heat pump is balancing the humidity level inside the house when the air conditioning is on. So even if you push the thermostat a bit higher, leave the air conditioning on when you go on vacation.
