My husband wants to move to the mountains and live off the grid.

So, it appears that I will have my heating and air conditioning

One day, not too long ago, my husband told me that in five years, when we both retire, he wants to move to the mountains and live off the grid. I really did think he was joking but it turned out that he was serious. We are both nature lovers, but I don’t know if I could comfortably live off the grid. I’m not too keen about building my own house and cooking over a fire and I am kind of keen on my central heat and air conditioning. My husband assures me that I will not be expected to live without heating and air conditioning. Nor was I expected to help build the house and I will have a real stove. That’s when I started to wonder if he was planning on taking me with him. That’s when he encouraged me to do a little research on heat pumps, battery power and solar power. There is a lot to learn! I admit that I don’t really understand much of it, but I didn’t really try that hard. I read enough to know that the power company isn’t the only way to get power. As long as I will have my heating and air conditioning I will be happy. And it seems that a heat pump can be run on solar power, and there are even solar generators. So, it appears that I will have my heating and air conditioning. It will cost a lot of money up front but we will be eliminating an electric bill altogether. Now if I could just figure out how to get the internet out there….
