Since my birthday falls on Christmas, I never got to have a birthday party. The year I turned sixteen, I wanted to have a real blow-out for my party. I asked mom if we could have it in the summer instead of over Christmas. I knew that people were out having fun in the summertime. A party at Christmas, a family time of year, was always going to be a bust. For my party, we planned on having an outdoor party. Wouldn’t you know that we have the pandemic this year, I still thought my party would come off good, since they had lifted some of the stay-at-home rules and they were allowing outdoor gatherings. I only invited twenty-five people, so I thought we would be okay. We have a huge backyard and it was easy for people to mingle while six feet apart. The morning of the party was cool and comfortable. About an hour before my guests were to arrive, the clouds dissipated and the sun was shining. With no shade, the temperature was over ninety degrees. We could let people into the house with the air conditioning, because of the pandemic. Mom thought a portable air conditioner would help, and she went to town. She bought two portable air conditioners, but they only helped the people who were within ten feet of them.. She had a party tent that we erected, but it was too hot without air conditioning. I don’t think I’m supposed to have birthday parties. Maybe for my eighteenth birthday party, we can get a venue that has air conditioning. .
