I’ve consistently known that I wanted to be a pro artist.
I have enjoyed drawing and painting since I was just a child. There is something special about putting ideas on paper and making them real that I truly love. I am alive and feel great when I am working on an art project. When I was aged enough to pick an elective at the university, I chose art. My stepdad thought I should have chosen an elective that would teach myself and others more about skills like English, math, or science. When I told my stepdad that I was thinking about becoming an artist, my stepdad told myself and others that I was going to take over the heating and AC repair contractor biz when I was older. I never heard my dad tell anyone that she plans to leave the contractor to me. It was a complete and total shock when my stepdad said that and I didn’t understand where it was coming from. My stepdad knew that I wanted to paint and draw and not work on heating and AC repairs. I love working with my hands and being creative so I did not see myself working in heating and AC repairs. My stepdad told myself and others that the people I was with and I would discuss it when I got older and now that time has come. She still wants myself and others to work at the family contractor as a repair service tech. She told myself and others I could go to art class at night after the real job is over if I am still interested in those childhood dreams. I certainly do not assume what I will do.
