Yesterday there was an immense storm in this part and our power was out for several afternoons.
It was really quite difficult to manage during this time because there was no power. My boss Ed expected myself and others to come back to work, although I called and told him that I was going to stay at home. I couldn’t leave my kids at the lake apartment all afternoon with no adults there and no power. If they were going to be annoyed, I was going to stay at the lake apartment and be annoyed with them. I do not care about not having any AC in the house. Air conditioning is the only way that I can manage during the summer. During the power outage, the kids and I didn’t have a/c in the apartment for 13 hours, and by the end of the late afternoon, the power came back on. I could have gone to work for a couple of hours and that would have made my boss happy. Instead, I decided to stay at the lake apartment with the kids. All of us cleaned up the backyard after the power came on and the kids and I cooled off. The backyard was a mess from the storm. There were downed trees and debris all over the fence and the yard and there were a ton of leaves in the pool. Everyone of us found a different job to do to make the backyard look much better than it did before the storm blew into town. I trimmed some of the trees that had fallen branches and the kids and I managed to turn the storm cleanup into a fun group family project.
