I hated our old furnace.

I always caution my kids about using the word hate.

I tell them hate is a strong word and should never be used in anger, or toward someone or something you may need someday.

I know it sounds silly, but I think the word hate is what causes too many wars and crimes. When Itold my husband I hated our furnace, he knew I was serious. The furnace no longer gave us the heat we needed to keep us warm. It made noises that made it sound like the house was haunted. I thought I smelled gas whenever it turned on. I told my husband that if we didn’t soon get a new furnace, I was afraid the old furnace was going to kill us. He thought I was being overly dramatic, but I didn’t care. I hated our old furnace. The next morning, I called the HVAC ccompany and asked them to look at the furnace. When the HVAC technician arrived, he asked when the noises started. I told him it had been happening for about a month. He came back upstairs after looking at the furnace, and asked if we had someplace to stay for the evening. There was a broken component in the gas furnace, that was known to put off carbon monoxide. I now knew I had a good reason to hate the furnace. I had heard about carbon monoxide, and it could kill a person. I told my husband what the HVAC technician had said. We moved in with our daughter for a few days until the HVAC company could get us another furnace.
