Whenever his dad went on a service call, Greyson tagged along
My husband is the owner of a small HVAC company. It is less than two-years-old, but he is steadily gaining more customers. Last month, for his sixth birthday, my husband bought our son a tool kit. He told him that when he could count to one thousand, he could fix the furnace. He didn’t give a thought to how much our son wanted to be just like his daddy. Although he could barely count to one hundred, I knew he would learn to count to one thousand. It took less than six months before my husband had to find another excuse to keep our son from approaching the furnace and trying to repair it. This time, he took him into the basement and showed him the furnace. He asked if Greyson thought he could open the air filter panel yet. Greyson was upset, but he admitted he couldn’t reach it. My husband told him that when he could change the air filter, he could learn how to repair the furnace. Several years went by before Greyson asked about repairing the furnace, but he was downstairs every couple of months. One afternoon, right before his twelfth birthday, he told his dad that he could reach the air filter chamber and asked if he could change the air filter. Changing air filters was now Greyson’s monthly task. Whenever his dad went on a service call, Greyson tagged along. He was learning how to repair furnaces. I knew that when he was old enough, our son would go to school for HVAC. His dad is very proud of him.
