My husband was supposed to have the afternoon off.
I planned a family outing for the afternoon.
The people I was with and I were taking our twin nine-year-old sons to the zoo. Just as the people I was with and I were about to walk out the door, his PC went off. It was his afternoon off, & I thought he would either leave his PC off or turn the ringer off. It didn’t toil that way. He took the call & told the person on the other end he would be there in an hour. I gritted our teeth, wondering if he thought I was going to take the trip to the zoo off the table for the afternoon. He told me it was his job, & he had to take care of this lady’s cooling system. I knew he was an Heating, Ventilation, & A/C professional. I also knew that he was the owner of the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C corporation. I thought he could just take a afternoon off whenever he wanted. Unfortunately, when all of his techs are off duty for the afternoon, or already on calls, the responsibility for the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C plan of his customers comes down to him. He apologized & told me he would see me when he got home. I looked at our sons, who were already heading up to their room. I asked them where they were going; or didn’t they want to be seen with just their mom? The people I was with and I hopped in the vehicle & left for the zoo, while our resident Heating, Ventilation, & A/C tech headed off to work. He was not going to ruin our afternoon at the zoo.
