I’ve always had a very sensitive nose, so I can basically smell everything.
I was diagnosed with hyperosmia at a young age.
When my parents learned that I had this, they felt bad for me. They used to be aggravated when I was always covering my nose and when I would complain about bad smells in the house. When they learned of my condition though, they finally were nice about it when it came to things. My father decided to invest in higher quality air filters to help improve the air quality in the house. He also invested in a powerful air purification system which helped a great deal with improving the smells in the household. He even would have the ductwork system cleaned regularly. Because I was able to learn these techniques from my father, I was able to carry on the same techniques when I eventually lived on my own. It wasn’t easy growing up with such a sensitive sense of smell, but it’s something you just have to get used to. I mostly just stay at my own house because of it because I have a very powerful UV air purification system, and I use HEPA air filters. Nobody else I know uses HEPA air filters except for my parents. I love visiting my parents because they understand me and my condition. When it comes to other people though, I can’t stand being in their homes for very long. I have a difficult time just shopping in different stores. That is why I usually do my shopping at this local convenience store where they do have a powerful air purification system.
