Did you know you could replace your air filter only once a year?

I recently got into a friendly argument with a friend about residential HVAC.

For someone who still has an analog thermostat, you would think I would have a dash of humility but I was very bold and certain that I was correct.

My argument was that no matter the type of quality HVAC one may have. They need to replace their air filter every three months or less. This couldn’t have been farther from the truth. One of the ladies happened to work in a homeowner solutions business as an HVAC professional clarified the issue. If one has no pets, lives alone, and has no allergies or it’s a vacation home, one can replace their furnace filter twice or once a year especially if u do not live in a busy place with lots of cars. If it’s a suburban home with no pets then it is after ninety days and if you have a pet or more the number continues going down, if you have two pets or have allergies you may be required to replace it every month The cooling specialist also shed some light on the advantages of having equipment that has an indoor air cleaning system and an air purification system to ensure high air quality. I always thought that the air circulating in the air duct is good enough but it occurred to me that some people prefer to be extra careful. These types of people must be the joy of their HVAC supplier although they do enjoy better indoor air quality than the rest of us. For some, it may be a basic need while others may view it as a luxury.
