Necessity pushed Mandy to learn a new skill on her own

They say necessity is the mother of invention, and in this case they are right. For centuries, all the largest jumps in technology have come from need. A need for power, a need for water, and in later days a need for information and connectivity. Tech arises to meet the needs of people. On a smaller scale, and Mandy is speaking from her experience, necessity pushed her to learn a modern skill all on her own, without any help, through trial and error. She did it because Mandy needed to do it. It started while she was in the summer time of 93, when her home area had that killer heatwave, and the cooling unit in her parents apartment broke. This was not a central Heating and A/C system, Mandy’s parents couldn’t afford those systems. It was just a small component that mounted in a window sill. Even though it was small and could only cool down one room, it was the only cooling unit they had, and losing it was unthinkable. Mandy took it out to the workshed, and removed the air vents and the front panel. She didn’t recognize what she was doing, however Mandy knew a broken part when she saw it. The young girl made a note of it then went to the junkyard to find a similar cooling unit. Mandy found 3 odd units, and brought them to her home to use as spare parts so she could service their air conditioner through trial and error by using mismatched parts! Maybe it was talent, maybe it was luck, however Mandy fixed that air conditioner!
