Getting back in shape

I got involved with gymnastics when I was just three-years-old.

I loved and excelled at the sport immediately.

As I got older, I spent more and more time training at the gym. Eventually, I joined the team and competed at various levels until I graduated from college. Once I entered the workforce, my life changed significantly. I became focused on my career and earning a promotion and better pay. For almost a year, I neglected my physical fitness and failed to prioritize my nutrition habits. I gained weight, lost muscle tone and developed all sorts of aches and pains. I realized that my happiness, outlook and productivity were also suffering. I needed to get back into exercise. I now make time to workout everyday. I typically exercise at the end of the day, once I’m done with work. This allows me to spend as much time training as I want. My workouts are centered around my gymnastics skills. Although I no longer compete, I still enjoy working on the various skills. I strive to maintain my abilities and achieve new goals. Going through different types of handstands, aerial cartwheels, back handsprings, back tucks and walkovers keeps me flexible and strong. These movements work all the muscles and joints of the body. They require balance and stamina. My workouts elevate my heart rate and are exhausting. I am drenched in sweat at the end of the session and yet feel wonderful. Along with getting back to a strict training regiment, I’ve also improved my eating habits. I’ve cut out all of the fast food and introduced all sorts of vegetables, fruits and whole grains into my diet.
