We have really neglected our furnace for the longest time, but now it looks like we’re going to be paying for it.
The weather is cooling off around here and it’s just about time to start running the heating system on a regular basis. You know, your furnace just isn’t something that you tend to think about much during the spring and the summer, but you really shouldn’t forget all about it the way that we did this year. You should really make sure that your furnace is clean and out of the way where it won’t get damaged while it’s not in use. Try to keep it clean and away from dust and dirt during the parts of the year when you aren’t using it. We didn’t do that this year and now we are paying for it dearly. Now that the weather is cooling off outside and the temperature is dropping, we want to turn on our electric furnace system and it’s not working at all the way that it should. When we went to turn it on for the year last week, it made a weird hissing sound and then there was a terrible smell, too. The smell was coming up through the heating vents and at first we thought the house was on fire or something. We called the local HVAC company and they are sending someone out to look at the furnace for us. I just know that it’s going to cost us a fortune to get it fixed. It probably could have been avoided totally if we had just done regular maintenance on it like we should have.
