Sometimes I turn off my car’s air conditioner and just roll down the windows

I’m happy the summer weather is starting to abate.

The high was 102 degrees yesterday afternoon, but by 9pm it had cooled off to 78 degrees.

Whenever it isn’t in the high 80s at night, I know it’s a sign that autumn weather is encroaching. Even though my southern climate still yields uncomfortably hot weather during the fall and winter, for the most part it’s mild or just a little bit cold during this time each year. I might need a comfortable sweater or a thin jacket when I’m out on the run, but it rarely gets colder than 45 degrees even during our most intense cold snaps. For now, I can simply hope and pray that this hot summer ends by the time October rolls around. I’ve been driving my car without the air conditioner on some afternoons. I like to roll down all of the windows and open my sunroof to let in the cool air as I fly down the interstate. There are parts of the summer that are so hot that I am forced to leave the air conditioner cranked on in my car. Thankfully, these days are coming to a close. I find that my car utilizes less gasoline if I’m not running the air conditioner while I drive. The car accelerates faster as well, especially compared to running the air conditioner at max. I couldn’t merge onto the highway fast enough once because I had the air conditioner set so high. It was utilizing precious energy resources that the engine needs to operate at high efficiency. If I can get by without air conditioning or heat in my car for long stretches of time, I save a tiny bit on gasoline each month.
